A native Italian, Chiara Lucia Mangiameli is a graduate of The Theater School at De Paul University. Her performance career spanning almost twenty five years includes roles in Mary Zimmermans's Notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci at the Goodman Theater, as well as Arthur Laurents' Time Of The Cuckoo at New York's Lincoln Center. Most recently, Chiara shared the stage with celebrity chef Rick Bayless in the Lookingglass Theater's ground-breaking production Cascabel.
Ms. Mangiameli's education in flamenco began eighteen years ago in Chicago, and subsequently brought her to deepen her studies in Seville and Madrid. She has since collaborated with critically acclaimed groups such as The Guitars Of Spain and Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater; guitarist and composer Diego Alonso; and music institutions such as Fulcrum Point and Chicago Sinfonietta. Under her direction, Studio Mangiameli is one of the fastest growing studios devoted to Flamenco in the greater Chicago area. In 2016, Ms. Mangiameli and dancers from the studio were invited to perform at the internationally renowned Albuquerque Flamenco Festival. Ms. Mangiameli has single handedly directed, choreographed and produced five themed dance concerts with Studio Mangiameli - A Través Del Espejo, Quejíos, Tides, Love Song and Rose Of Damascus - highlighting the achievements of upwards of seventy student dancers over the years.
Her studies with artists such as Miguel Vargas, La Choni, Paloma Gómez, and Adrián Santana have given her a versatile base and appreciation for the traditional as well as the contemporary; a thorough understanding of the cante, its dynamics and structure. Chiara's attention to detail and a careful study of technique are the hallmarks of her classes, whether working with fans, bata de cola or castanets.
